Having to travel due to my work, I usually make a lot of
trips to various parts of the country. And yes they usually are air travel. So
what amuses me the most about air travel goes back to my story a couple of
years back when I used to be a child. This is a story that my mom told me
about, so when air travel was nothing less than a luxury, my entire family did
a trip to Rajasthan in a flight and apparently I threw up and my brother
dirtied his pants before getting into the washroom. Well neither I nor my
brother remembers any of these. But that was an experience that stayed with me through
a memory.
So my next flight to my next destination was A) after a
really long time and B) a really long one. So for the 'first' time ever I was
to travel to London in an airplane. As excited I was, I cannot explain the joy
that I had was that of a small kid. At that time of course I didn't know the
concept of web check-in and selecting seats. But thankfully, I did get a window
seat and oh! The joy of watching from the window was priceless.
But what I am really going to talk about here in this blog is
the kind of people that I've travelled with and their equation with me while
travelling. So, my frequent travels began with my job in Disney UTV. So, I was
to travel with my colleague Sneh, who's known to sleep while in a moving
vehicle. Well, by now I had a pattern that I followed, the moment I would park
myself on my seat, my agenda would be to sleep till I landed an that's how I'd
been travelling for a long time now. So coming back to travelling with Sneh,
yes I had an ideal partner for the journey. A little chatter and then we are
back to our individual businesses.
Then came a day that I dreaded, I travelled with my dear
friend, Rashmi. Oh what a havoc! From the beginning to the end, the journey was
nothing less than a tornado. So instead of resting/ sleeping while one can,
Rashmi insisted on playing dumbsharads while we were aboard, occasionally
making fool of ourselves while we signalled to each other across seats.
Then, came a time when I had to travel with my dearest,
Aanand. Well one tip while travelling with him, either buy him an interesting
book to read or buy yourself an ear plug or the best option is to travel only
in Air India with him. And yes, not to forget, while the indigo and jet airways
have their so called offers going on, he behaves like a father of a child who wants
to buy that child a gift. Well, if you intend to sleep while Mr. A is around,
that's like the biggest sin you are about to commit!
While my experiences have been different with different
individuals, my ‘role’ in these journey’s have also been different. So with my
colleague I am treated like a grown up individual, with my best friend, I am
treated like a kinder garden kid who has been left by their parents to play
around and with Mr. A, I play a double role of a child who will be rewarded
with a gift even if not asked and another role, that of a mother!
While, air travels are fun when u are landing or taking off,
it gives the view of the city, the sky and a lot more. It's a time that the
child in you will always cherish. So whether you travel with a friend,
colleague or your partner you experience will be different but the child in you
will enjoy every bit of it.
