I AM A HUSTLER
Quite often, when you go for an interview, the staple question posed to you – Tell us about yourself. In a civilized, straight forward way – they are asking you – WHO ARE YOU?
The most common mistake that all of us do. We start over explaining, where are we from, what have we done, and so on, without really answering the question – WHO ARE YOU!
Today, after 15 years of work experience and 20 years of education, I can say that I was, am and will always be a HUSTLER.
Don’t know about doing something dishonest, but if I were to, I’d honestly be dishonest 😉
In most of my interviews, I always told the interviewer that I was a curious being. At some point, it also reflected in my resume. But was I just curious? No, I was curious and itching to explore. Do more.
Did I have the avenues, yes and no.
As a child, while studying – I tutored kids, did craft and sold them to earn pocket money (Used all that money to buy gifts and food). As I grew, the hunger to learn and earn was much higher. I observed, learned and applied. But was that enough? No. People wanted labels – Label of working with a big brand, having studied in a prestigious school or having done something credible.
What the system fails to understand, is that, its not always
you have an opportunity of working with big brands, or study in big schools.
Life experiences do matter and when you interview someone and hire them, these
life experiences are what matters. Not which brand you worked with, or which
school you studied in. After all, we all deal with humans! Throughout my education and career life, I've had the fortune of working and being recommended for the work I did for someone - not all were big brands, but a few people saw that hustle, appreciated it and showed trust. Moral of story, I never stop hustling.
So if today, someone asks me, who am I – I am proud to say,
I AM A HUSTLER and will always be one!
