Sleepy Story!

Did you ever wonder how important sleep is, for you? Well, I not only wonder but also do keep a track of. In my case, sleep is very very dear to me. I can go on for long hours sleeping without any fuel. Seems a bit crazy? Yeah it is! Read on you may find some interesting facts for your study…

Since my childhood I’ve been found of sleeping for long hours. So much so, that my parents used to think of techniques to wake me up after I’ve been woken up at least 5 times earlier. We used to have one alarm clock (the normal one which goes titi titi tititit tititit from the lower pitch to the higher one). Then my mother went bought the age old round alarm clock (that would go triiiinnnnng) thinking that this would work the trick. Then my dad asked my uncle to get the talking clock after these failed to work on me (It would go toing… Good Morning, It’s seven O’Clock am – you have the option of male and female voice as well). Then finally when even this one didn’t work my mother went in search for a clock that would wake up people from at least five other houses. And then she found this Elephant clock, which on setting an alarm would sound like this: Tete tete tete…dish dish dish… Good Morning.. Goodmorning.. then once again tete teteten teten…dish dish dish...So while people from the other five houses were awake, I was fast asleep! All the products in the alarm market was tried and tested with me.

So here are certain instances of my sleeping life that I would like to share in this blog that are just funny but ridiculously funny.

This was when I was in my junior or senior KG. We used to live in a small house before, that called for some space crunch and we would then sleep on the floor with mattress. Around 10.00am my dad would wake us up to get ready for school, but I wouldn’t nudge. Every time dad would wake me up I would ask him to give me five mins and go back to sleep again. Again mom would come and I would repeat the same thing. After being fed up of my 5-5-5 mins, my dad would carry me to the bathroom and make me stand there. Again I am not one of those who would give up so easily, so I would lean of the bathroom wall and sleep until my mom would come in and throw some water on me. This went on for years together till the time I was heavy to be carried. I would remember my dad or mom picking me up and putting me on the bed in the morning during holidays and I would wake up, not before 12 noon.

I was somewhere at the age of nine or ten when me, my mother and brother were travelling to Gujarat to spend our summer vacations at my Nani’s place. So this train was completely crowed and I was this small little girl standing next to my mom holding her hand and Sleepy, since it was the morning 5am train! Struggling to catch hold of two kids and about two-three bags of ours, my mother was trying really hard to keep me and my brother within her vicinity, so that we don’t get lost anywhere in the crowded train. That is when she just realizes that her small kid, that’s me, is holding her hand and is fast asleep, standing next to her in this completely packed train! She was amazed at my ability to sleep in while standing!! Well may be I thought that the fleet of people around me were my bed and my mom’s hand my pillow.

Now this used to be a very funny situation, when I was in my 5th grade, we used to have morning school. This would mean that we would be back by 1.00pm and post that it would be my beauty sleep time. So we are back from school, filled of stomachs and within minutes I am off to sleep. On the other hand my brother would roam around play games and I would peacefully sleep. It was this one dreadful, unfortunate day, when my father brought home a new 5 in 1 music player with huge speakers. I guess my brother was the biggest enemy of my sleep. At sharp 5.30pm in the evening, he would play some loud music at a mind blasting volume in an effort to wake me up. I guess my brother and dad conspired against my sleep. But how could I give up, I had to fight for my right to sleep! I would gather about five – six pillows and blankets and bury myself under them. The 5 in 1 would be blasting at high volume only to realize that I wouldn’t listen and sleep away to glory at least till 6.00-6.30pm.

Since our childhood we’ve always travelled by car wherever we’ve gone. And most of the time it used to be last minute decision to go somewhere out. I remember, it was about 11.00pm and I had gone off to sleep, there were some guests at home. At around 2.00am my father decides that we would be going to lonavala for a holiday. I recollect my mother picking me up (while I am fast asleep) and putting me in the car. And the next moment when I wake up, what do I see? We are at the entrance gate of some nice looking hotel where guards are taking our bags in, and I am standing there half asleep in my night dress!! The next morning I wake up to realize that I wasn’t dreaming, we were actually in Lonavala.

Travelling by car also reminds me of another incident, where we were travelling to Rajasthan. It was supposed to be a routine – unless and until everyone in the house is not ready I am not supposed to be woken up. I would be the last person to wake up and get ready, while others finished their other chores. So it was this day when we were travelling to Rajasthan, Mom woke me up at 5.00am after a lot of resistance from my end. I brushed my teeth, took a bath, and ate breakfast – all of this while I am half asleep. All of us got into the car and there after a few minutes I was found sleeping away to glory. I would then directly wake up for another round of breakfast, then lunch and then dinner. It would be a 14 hour journey, which passed quite swiftly while I would be sleeping. Once we would reach the destination I would be once again in bed already dreaming about Salman Khan’s of the world!

I am thinking that the readers would be wondering how much can this girl actually sleep. But this incident would be something to be awarded as the Guinness book award. It was just those summer holidays and nothing to do. I went off to sleep on say 14th night; the whole of 15th I was sleeping woke up just once to attend the call of nature. Then went off to sleep again and woke up on 16th evening just to feed something to my hungry stomach and was off again on my sleep yatra only to wake up on 17th afternoon. I still wonder how I pulled off such a great achievement!

During my board exams I used to study the entire night and then go and write the paper directly. It was once that early morning I had to go to the attend the nature’s call, it was really urgent and I had to finish one answer which I was trying to finish for a long time, so I decided that I would take my book along in the washroom. After a while I hear someone shouting from outside and knocking on the door. I was startled to realize that I had gone off to sleep while I was sitting in the bathroom. This would also happen with me when would arrive late from college in BMM and would be tired. I would go to the bathroom to take a wash and sit on the pot and doze off.

Well, these are just a few places that I’ve slept. I have also slept in common places like bed, cinema halls, lectures, while working on the computer and lots more. I remember my father telling me his childhood day’s story about how he would go off to sleep while he would be eating food! Well this is one area that I haven’t ventured till date. Maybe one day I might just do that.

You may be wondering why is my sleep so dear to me, the sole reason being that when I fall asleep I get varied dreams. Dreams of all type, all colour and of different nature. Many a times when I am dreaming and I have been woken up I go back to sleep within the next few seconds and catch on the dream once again. So it’s like one of those favourite shows that would not want to miss under any circumstance.

I am just ready to leave everything for my sleep; it’s so dear to me. I would reach late to college, bunk college and office just to sleep for a day peacefully. I have this friend of mine – Pritu who I would meet online at odd hours in the night. And I would ask him – Pritu, jaa so jaa, kal office hai. And he would reply – arrey yaar mujhe neend nahi aa raha hai. I don’t get sleep. Wow!! Now this is a huge worry, how can someone not get sleep? Well if you want I can share some of my sleep with you!

So this was my sleepy story, hope you enjoyed it. Now I am too sleepy to write anything more, so I might as well go off you to sleep. And I hope you haven’t gone off to sleep reading this sleepy story.
